Touchdown on Campus
From eNews, September 2, 2004
Looking for a place to gather before home football games this fall? A place with great food, easy parking, convenient transportation to the Metrodome, and other like-minded, maroon-and-gold-decked Gopher fans? Then check out the plaza in front of Coffman Memorial Union, where "Touchdown on Campus" will bring together faculty, staff, students, alumni, and the general public to kick off the football festivities.
Touchdown on Campus is an effort to build community on campus and excitement for Gopher football, led by a group comprised of faculty and staff. "Our goal is to make it fun and convenient for people to come to campus, gather for food and drinks at Coffman, and catch shuttles to and from the games," says Perry Leo, a faculty member who helped develop Touchdown on Campus. "We have a great new facility in Coffman Union, and these events fit in well with the efforts to bring football back to campus. We're trying to create a culture here that better incorporates athletics into campus life."
The events will begin two-and-a-half hours prior to the start of all Gopher home games, beginning with this Saturday's game (September 4) against Toledo. Fans can enjoy fare at the food tent on Coffman plaza (facing Washington Avenue) or on the fourth floor of Coffman Union, and also catch appearances by Goldy Gopher, University leaders, the U Marching Band, and cheerleaders.
Event parking is available at the East River Road Garage for $5. Free shuttle bus service will be provided to and from the Metrodome.
