Wander the Weisman this weekend
Published on November 12, 2004
This weekend, great local art takes over the Weisman Art Museum (WAM) on the Twin Cities campus. Under Frank Gehry's shining, silver roof, 10 galleries will show off their work and offer it for sale.
Circa Gallery's Wanda Flechsig says that the Weisman gives the galleries and the artists a wonderful opportunity, but also gives the community the chance to see the best art there is to be seen in the metro area--all in one place.
"You can talk to the dealers directly and find out what their works are all about, says Flechsig. "If I were interested in the local art scene, that's where I'd be this weekend." And Flechsig will be there with works reflecting her own particular style.
WAM Art Expo
Friday, November 12, 7-10 p.m.
Saturday, November 13, 11 a.m.-5 p.m.
Sunday, November 14, 11 a.m.-3 p.m.
And that's what makes WAM's second annual Art Expo about more than buying and selling art--it's a unique way to understand the distinct personalities of the galleries and see their individualistic collections. Wander through the Weisman on Saturday or Sunday afternoon and talk with the gallery owners, ask about their collecting styles, and learn who are up-and-coming local artists. Think of it as an aesthetic education as well as the chance to bring something beautiful home with you.
The show opens Friday night, November 12, with a preview and reception, and remains open through the weekend. Tonight's reception costs $25, but admission is free on Saturday and Sunday.
