World-class short track speed skaters compete at Mariucci

March 31, 2006

Many of the best speed skaters in the world go head to head in the 2006 ISU World Short Track Speed Skating Championships from Friday, March 31, through Sunday, April 2, at Mariucci Arena on the Twin Cities campus.

Short track speedskating has grown in popularity over the last decade, and received increased exposure in the recent 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin.

Although Apolo Anton Ohno will not compete this weekend, many other superstars in the sport will. Individuals and teams from about 30 countries, including the United States, Korea, and Canada, will compete in Minneapolis.

Single-day general admission tickets are $20 and $15, and reserved VIP tickets are $40. Three-day passes are also available for $50 for general admission seating, and $100 for reserved VIP. Student, senior, and group discounts are also available. For ticket information, call the University of Minnesota Athletics box office at 612-624-8080 or 800-846-7437.
