Why are Earth's cities warming up twice as fast as the rest of the planet?
More than half the people on earth live in cities. Urban areas are warming at twice the rate of the planet, and heat waves are becoming more frequent. The University of Minnesota's four-year Islands in the Sun research project seeks to discover how "heat islands" work—and to help lower the temperature in cities through landscape design.
